The Civil Services Examination (CSE) is conducted every year by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to recruit officers for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and other Central Services. It is widely regarded as one of the most rigorous public examinations in the world, testing not just knowledge but judgement, integrity and clarity of expression.
It is conducted in three stages — a Preliminary objective examination, a Main written examination consisting of nine descriptive papers, and a Personality Test (interview). Only candidates who clear each stage proceed to the next, and the final rank is decided by combined marks of the Main examination and the Interview.
Every year, some of the country's most capable candidates come from villages and small towns where access to structured coaching, reliable internet and updated study material is limited. The syllabus itself does not demand a particular background — it demands consistency, the right foundation, and honest guidance.
